CAMAC TURBO Personal Computer Interface Type 1331

Product Description

The Hytec IBM 1331/Turbo is a two–width CAMAC ACB Crate Controller for IBM PC/AT and compatibles. It is similar to the Hytec 1330, but has four distinct improvements:–

  • 16 bit data bus for use on PC/AT machines – new Personality card and 50–way cable.
  • Automatic repeat of last CAMAC command.
  • Readable/Writeable registers for full context restoration on interrupt.
  • Supplied with PCI Personality Card 5331

Compatability

The 1331 is 100% downwards software compatible with our 8 bit IBM Crate Controller, the 1330, that is, you can talk to the 1331 with software written for the 1330, eg: CATY/IBM, even if you don’t have a 16 bit PC.

Auto Repeat

The 1331 is equipped with extra data registers (separately addressed) which when addressed imply a repeat of the last loaded CAMAC command. This is true in both 8 bit and 16 bit modes, so for PC, PC/XT users, this interface offers a performance improvement over the 1330.

16 Bit Data Bus

For PC/ATs and compatibles, the 1331 provides a transparent 16–bit upgrade (ie: the hardware detects 8/16–bit automatically) with auto–repeat if desired, offering the possibility of 16 bit CAMAC reads/writes in a single PC I/O cycle.

Context Restoration

The 1331 has a full set of readable/writeable registers so that interrupts can be handled correctly. The 1331 has an extra front panel display of function codes.

Further Front Panel LED Details

“ADDRESS” , “INTERRUPT”, “CAMAC” (= CAMAC cycle), “FAIL” (= REPEAT CYCLE TIMEOUT), because of “No Q” or “No X” response.

Software

Hytec provide a wide range of drivers and routines for both 1330 and 1331 Controllers. In addition to using Basic to drive the Controller through INP and OUT, there are ESONE Standard routines available for Windows 95, NT, 2000, XP and compatible with Visual C, Visual BASIC and Visual Fortran.

1945 ECS1330 ESONE MS Visual C routines Windows 95/98 for 1330
1950 ECS1331 ESONE MS Visual C routines for Windows 95/98 for 1331
1951 WNT1330/31 Windows NT V4 Device Driver for 1330/31 with ESONE Callable Subroutines

Connection

The new 50–way cable used to connect the Personality Card to the 1331 can be up to 20 metres long, due to improved line driving and receiving.

Diagnostics

Since the 1331 has read/writeable registers, the system can be checked out without the need for any CAMAC activity.

Register Addressing

Address Read Write
  16 bit 8 bit 8 bit 16 bit
Base+E Diagnostic - - -
Base+C

Read/Retrigger

Write/Retrigger

Base+A   Read A,N,F F.Code
Base+8   Encoded L Station (N)
Base+6   CSR Subaddress (A)
Base+4   Hi-byte Hi-byte
Base+2   Mid-byte Mid-byte
Base   Low-byte Low-byte

Notes:

  1. Within the shaded area is 1330 compatible.
  2. Read A,N,F is a sequential readout.
  3. Read or Write/Retrigger implies a repeat of the last loaded NAF. In 8 bit mode, two accesses are required, low-byte first, then mid-byte.
  4. Diagnostic is a readback of the last loaded Write/Retrigger data.
  5. Base Address is assigned automatically by the motherboasrd DCI BIOS.
