Branch Highway Cable

Cables type BHC xxx are 65 twisted–pair (plus two earths) cables complete with WSS 0132 Huges plugs at each end. These are unscreened 19/.127 (24AWG) cables for operating in accordance with specification EUR 4600. The recommended maximum total length of a Branch formed with this grade of cable is 60 metres, although with care satisfactory operation in excess of this length is certainly possible in electrically ’quiet’ areas. The ’xxx’ in the code is the cable length in centimetres: i.e. BHC 100 is 1 metre long.

Precisely the same cable (but with a different centre–boss orientation, is used with our Differential Branch Extender modules, DBE 6501, in lengths of up to 150 metres. The code for this cable is EBH yy, or Extended Branch Cable, with the length in this case, yy, in metres.

Serial Highway Cable

Standard Serial Highway Cable has 9 twisted–pairs for Clock and (bit or byte) Signal Out, and 2 twisted–pairs for Clock and (bit only) Signal Return. Thus the cable may be used as a single link, byte serial, or as a double link (Out and Return), bit serial. The wire size is 7/.127 (28 AWG) and there is the appropriate 25–way ’D’ connector at the ends: plug at one end and socket at the other. The code for this cable is SHC (y) where y is the length in metres. Special low–loss cables for high speed operation over the maximum possible distance is available to special order.
